Prof. Dr. Ruth Banomyong Invited as Key Speaker in Indonesia–Mekong Forum on Infrastructure, Energy, and Food Security

The Government of Indonesia, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has officially invited Prof. Dr. Ruth Banomyong, full-time faculty member at the Department of International Business, Logistics, and Transport, Thammasat University, to serve as a key speaker at the upcoming regional policy forum titled “Exploring Market and Strengthening Cooperation Between Indonesia and Mekong Region Organizations on Infrastructure, Energy, and Food Security.” The event is scheduled to take place on April 23, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta.
This high-level forum is part of Indonesia’s growing engagement in the Mekong subregion, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mekong River Commission (MRC) in January 2024. The forum aims to explore market opportunities and strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Mekong-based organizations in three critical sectors: infrastructure, energy, and food security.
As a leading expert in supply chain and logistics in the Mekong subregion, Prof. Dr. Ruth is expected to deliver a presentation on the topic “Subregional Organizations, Infrastructure Development, Connectivity and Market Integration in the Mekong.” Her insights will address the role of key subregional cooperation frameworks—such as GMS, MRC, MI, LMC, and ACMECS—in fostering infrastructure development, market connectivity, and strategic collaboration between Mekong nations and external partners like Indonesia.
The hybrid-format event will bring together representatives from government ministries, state-owned enterprises, research institutes, embassies in the Mekong countries, and international experts. The forum reflects Indonesia’s commitment to playing a more active role in the sustainable development of the Mekong region, while also recognizing Thailand’s leadership in advancing logistics and regional integration.
